The Gwinnett Disability Resource Connection committee’s’ mission is to “connect, communicate and educate individuals and families living with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our community and beyond.”
We achieve this by:
- Leveraging social media tools to share information and resources;
- Encouraging individuals and families to support one another; and
- By being the premiere and most trusted support for children, adults and their families living with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
We seek to provide information through social media and agency links to individuals and families living with intellectual and developmental disabilities so they will have access to a broad range of innovative tools that promote full inclusion in our community.
The Health & Wellness committee currently focuses its attention on education and awareness initiatives that target obesity, healthy lifestyles and substance abuse prevention. This committee encourages and promotes community linkages of healthcare resources that provide services to low-income residents. Target populations include youth, seniors and low-income communities.

Youth Advisory Board
An initiative of GUIDE, INC- one of the Gwinnett Coalition’s partnership agencies, the Youth Advisory Board (YAB) is a group of high school students from across Gwinnett County who come together to learn leadership skills, provide input to various aspects of GUIDE programming and conduct substance abuse prevention projects. YAB members are committed to positively impacting the community, as well as making responsible and healthy personal choices. Throughout the school year, YAB members take part in monthly meetings and help plan things like youth leadership trainings, community-wide events and peer-prevention campaigns designed to reduce alcohol, tobacco and other drug use.
YAB members develop and practice key leadership skills such as public speaking, group management, networking, decision-making, planning, organization and time management. Former YAB members have gone on to serve in prestigious leadership positions in other organizations and on their college campuses, receive full scholarships to colleges of their choice, lead their fellow youth in community organizing activities and have been selected to serve as interns and paid summer staff for GUIDE.
The YAB is facilitated by the Executive Council, consisting of the President, Vice President and Secretary. Two YAB members are also asked to serve as Youth Board Members for the GUIDE Board of Directors. Additionally, all YAB members will be exposed to a wide variety of leadership opportunities, including participation in Georgia Teen Institute, GUIDE’s summer leadership program.
