GWINNETT COUNTY COMPLETES PLAN TO SERVE CHILDREN AND
FAMILIES
Gwinnett County, GA –
In July 2003, the Gwinnett Coalition for Health and Human Services
implemented an eighty-plus page strategic plan outlining programs that will
serve Gwinnett children and families through 2009. The plan involves all agencies, age groups, groups-at-risk,
families, children, businesses, and individuals in improving the quality of
life in Gwinnett. The goal over the
18-month process to complete the plan was to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the health and human
service delivery system countywide.
To address key issues facing the county, the Gwinnett Coalition
for Health and Human Services has created councils and committees comprised of
more than 1,000 health and human service providers, business leaders, parents,
young people, and other concerned volunteers. Each council helps identify needs
and develop results-oriented solutions. The five strategic councils include:
Improving Communications; Positive Youth Development; Strengthening
Communities; Strengthening Families; Strengthening Resources. Based on the top priorities recommended by
each council, the Gwinnett Coalition for Health and Human Services develops
on-going action agendas. Some of the
major activities in the current plan are: a computer-based information and
referral system that allowed service agencies to share resources and improve
service delivery; a comprehensive youth health survey; and the Gwinnett
Neighborhood Leadership Institute.
Created to provide residents the help they need in combating
difficult situations, the Gwinnett Coalition for Health and Human Services was
formed nearly a decade ago through the efforts of the United Way, concerned
residents and business owners in Gwinnett County. The Gwinnett Coalition is a
non-profit organization that creates collaborative programs through the
development of public and private partnerships to improve the overall
well-being of our community. The Gwinnett Coalition identifies required needs
and resources, plans solutions and promotes community action to meet many needs
throughout our community. The Gwinnett Coalition also serves as an advocacy
group for health and human service issues, promoting consensus-building among
agencies, organizations, businesses, and individuals throughout Gwinnett County.
